Shantou Maritime Safety Administration has activated a Level IV emergency response to fully defend against the ninth super typhoon of the year, "Bavi."

According to the meteorological department's forecast, the center of this year's 9th super typhoon "Bavi" was located at 16.5 degrees north latitude and 138.4 degrees east longitude at 14:00 on July 7, with maximum winds near the center reaching level 16 (55 meters/second), moving westward at a speed of 25 to 30 kilometers per hour with little change in intensity. To ensure the safety of ships in Shantou waters against the typhoon, the Shantou Maritime Safety Administration has implemented upgraded typhoon prevention controls and comprehensive defensive measures, initiating a level-four emergency response for tropical cyclones at 9:00 on July 7.

According to reports, in recent days, the Shantou Maritime Safety Administration held a meeting to deploy typhoon prevention work, conducting an in-depth analysis and assessment of the impact of super typhoon "Bavi" on maritime traffic safety in Shantou waters. Enforcement teams were organized to conduct a comprehensive inspection of ships in the jurisdiction's ports, including offshore wind power construction vessels, passenger ferries, repair and construction ships, and yachts, which were included in a key ship list for port management. Over 110 key ships were supervised one-on-one to formulate and implement typhoon prevention plans, ensuring that safety requirements for typhoon prevention were effectively carried out.

The Shantou Maritime Safety Administration stated that after the level-four emergency response for tropical cyclones was initiated, the administration strengthened duty shifts, enhanced on-site and electronic patrols, and organized and guided ships to orderly implement typhoon prevention measures. Patrol frequency and coverage density were increased, with a focus on monitoring the waters around Nan'ao, Guang'ao Bay, and Haimen Bay, which are high-risk areas for illegal passenger-carrying maritime leisure activities, as well as key control areas such as offshore wind farms, marine ranches, and submarine cable zones.

In addition, the administration has been broadcasting typhoon emergency response information and updates on typhoon dynamics to ships in the jurisdiction, port and shipping enterprises, and maritime construction projects through the smart maritime system and very high frequency (VHF) communication. As of 12:00 on July 7, a total of 316 safety reminder messages had been broadcast.

The Shantou Maritime Safety Administration reminds ships in the eastern Guangdong waters to closely monitor the movement path and intensity changes of the 9th super typhoon "Bavi," scientifically adjust navigation plans, stay away from areas affected by the typhoon, formulate typhoon prevention plans in advance, and choose suitable waters to shelter from the wind to ensure safety.
