In 2025, China's total primary energy production will reach 5.13 billion tons of standard coal, breaking through the 5 billion tons mark for the first time, marking remarkable achievements in energy supply during the 14th five-year Plan period. The energy structure has shown profound changes: non-fossil energy power generation continues to grow rapidly, and its new power generation accounts for 112.1 per cent of the new electricity consumption of the whole society, exceeding 50 per cent for the fourth time since 2020, and has become the absolute main body of new power generation. In this context, thermal power generation fell for the first time in a decade, about 6.3 trillion kWh for the whole year, down 0.7 percent from the same period last year, and its role shifted more to basic security and system regulation. Specific to various types of energy: coal production was 4.85 billion tons, an increase of 1.4 percent over the same period last year, but the growth rate was lower than the average annual level of the 14th five-year Plan, and imports fell 9.6 percent over the same period last year; crude oil production was 0.216 billion tons, maintaining a steady rise, with imports expanding to about 40 source countries, and the structure was continuously optimized. Natural gas production has increased by more than 10 billion cubic meters for nine consecutive years, reaching 262.06 billion cubic meters, and its dependence on foreign countries, the lowest level during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. Overall, China's non-fossil energy consumption and its share of primary energy consumption have reached a record high, and the process of low-carbon energy transition has accelerated significantly.
