“Horsepower” on Full Blast: Port-Listed Companies Usher in a New Year “Acceleration”
Spring tides surge to start a new journey, and hard work and progress are timely. During the Spring Festival, production at major domestic port-listed companies continued, operations were busy, and they raced out of the gate with acceleration, showcasing strong development vitality.
Since the beginning of this year, companies have planned ahead and scientifically deployed, making "ensuring smooth operations, improving efficiency, and optimizing services" the primary task for starting work. They overcame multiple challenges such as concentrated ship arrivals and adverse weather interference, coordinated manpower, material, and equipment resources, allowing the terminal operation line to quickly enter an efficient operational state, using practical achievements to start the year well and take the first step.
Staying on duty during the holiday, impressive achievements mark a good start
During the Spring Festival holiday, production at major port-listed companies did not stop, services were uninterrupted, and all staff stayed at their posts, seizing the peak of ship arrivals with high-intensity operations and high-efficiency operations, delivering impressive results and laying a solid foundation for the sprint to start work.
From February 17 to 23, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed a container throughput of over 910,000 standard boxes, a year-on-year increase of over 18%. This port, which has ranked first in global cargo throughput for 16 consecutive years, is steadily moving towards the goal of winning the championship for 17 consecutive years.
During the same period, Shanghai Port completed over 400 foreign trade container liner ship operations, with an average daily container throughput of nearly 160,000 standard boxes, and foreign trade business volume increased by more than 6% year-on-year. Yangshan Phase III terminal, relying on intelligent stowage technology, saw a 20.6% decrease in ship loading and unloading rate, firmly ranking first in service efficiency among major global ports.
During the Spring Festival (February 15 to 20), approximately 625 ships docked at Guangzhou Port, a 4.3% increase compared to the same period last year. Among them, 308 were foreign trade ships, a 14.5% increase compared to the same period last year, with foreign trade cargo and container throughput steadily rising, increasing by 24.9% and 24.3% respectively compared to the same period. Safe piloting was conducted 343 times, an 18.69% increase compared to the same period. These rising figures reflect the strong pulse of the main hub port in South China.
From February 15 to 23, Sichuan Port also delivered impressive New Year production results, completing a port cargo throughput of 36,600 tons, a year-on-year increase of 33.04%; container throughput was 4,491 standard boxes, remaining flat compared to the same period last year; rail-water intermodal container volume was 896 standard boxes, a year-on-year increase of 22.07%; a total of 34 voyages were conducted, a year-on-year increase of 47.83%, injecting New Year momentum into the construction of the upper Yangtze River shipping hub.
Major ports were brightly lit, machines roared, using dedication to interpret responsibility, welcoming the New Year with achievements, and playing the passionate symphony of the port economy's good start.
Efficient linkage strengthens the hub, ensuring smooth operations and stable chains
To effectively ensure that the industrial chain and supply chain "do not break or disconnect," port-listed companies focused on efficient operations, deepened collaborative linkage, cleared logistics bottlenecks, optimized service processes, and fully strengthened the logistics transportation lifeline.
On February 17, the first day of the Lunar New Year, Qingdao Port's five major port areas simultaneously entered a busy and efficient state, with 126 production berths operating at full capacity, over 80 ships simultaneously working at the port, accumulating over 140 ship dockings and departures, and the operation volume of key cargo types such as containers, dry bulk, general cargo, and liquid bulk fully exceeding planned indicators, setting more than 10 records.
On the morning of February 22, at the Xiamen Haicang Comprehensive Bonded Zone's Far Sea Terminal, three giant ships docked in succession. The 366-meter-long "Oriental Lilac," the 399-meter-long "Oriental Turkey," and the 348-meter-long "COSCO Kaohsiung" stood side by side, creating a spectacular sight. They serve the Ocean Alliance's East America Line 2, Europe Line 1, and West America Line, covering 34 global ports, with fully loaded cargo to be shipped to New York, Long Beach, and Zeebrugge, Belgium.
"Before the Spring Festival, we anticipated the situation of tight manpower during the holiday and opened the gates to receive containers 21 days in advance, closely coordinating with the work arrangements of import port units." The head of the operations department of Xiamen Far Sea Container Terminal Co., Ltd. stood at the forefront of the terminal, pointing to the giant ships in operation, saying, "We must ensure the smooth logistics chain during the holiday and guarantee that the terminal clearance efficiency during this year's Spring Festival holiday does not decrease."
Data shows that as of the 22nd, the Far Sea Terminal had completed operations for 15 foreign trade ships during this year's Spring Festival, with routes covering East America, West America, Europe, the Middle East, and Oceania.
At Guangzhou Port, one ocean-going giant ship after another arrived at the port, one inland river ship after another was ready to depart, and batches of key personnel stayed on the front line of water production and transportation. "The seaport does not stop working, and people's livelihoods are guaranteed." Under the guidance of the Guangzhou Port Authority, all large public terminals in the Nansha Port Area did not stop production, and work processes and manpower and material allocation were optimized in advance to ensure uninterrupted logistics during peak shipping periods. COSCO Shipping Bulk and Special Transport, two water transport companies, continued to operate, playing the role of the "ballast stone" that accounts for 97% of Guangzhou's water transport turnover.
"Smart transformation and green transition" add momentum, innovation-driven towards the future
Empowering efficiency with wisdom and promoting development through green transition. Major port-listed companies regard technological innovation as their core competitiveness, continuously advancing intelligent transformation and green low-carbon transition, injecting continuous new momentum into high-quality port development.
In the control center of Ningbo Zhoushan Port's Beilun Port Area's North Second Container Company, the light from electronic screens reflects the focused faces of controllers, with dense ship dynamics and equipment status refreshing in real-time; on the monitoring screens, rail cranes precisely lift and place containers into designated areas.
Shanghai Port's Yangshan Phase IV automated terminal's digital twin system achieves virtual verification of new processes and algorithms, with complex processes such as "double trolley double spreader" and "simultaneous loading and unloading" advancing orderly, significantly surpassing design capacity.
Qingdao Port's automated terminal achieves unmanned full-process operations for container ship navigation, docking, and operations. When the intelligent navigation container ship "Smart Fly" docks, the vacuum automatic mooring system can fix the ship in just 30 seconds.
"The traditional docking method requires coordination between ship and shore personnel, which is relatively inefficient and poses certain safety risks." The head of the operations department of Shandong Port Qingdao Port's fully automated terminal said, adopting the terminal's vacuum automatic mooring system, achieving full-process intelligence from ship docking, cargo loading and unloading to horizontal transportation, significantly improving terminal operation efficiency and berth utilization rate, and it is expected to shorten ship docking time by over 200 hours annually.
The intelligent control system of Tianjin Port's second container terminal yard, after 12 version iterations and nearly 230,000 box real machine tests, has improved yard crane utilization by 12.3%, and the average time for ART horizontal transportation single-circle operations has been shortened by 6.7%...
The green transition is accelerating simultaneously. Major ports actively promote the application of new energy equipment, with pure electric container trucks and hydrogen fuel cell trailers gradually replacing traditional fuel vehicles; the shore power system for ships achieves full coverage, effectively reducing carbon emissions and noise pollution during ship docking; distributed photovoltaic, wind power, and other green energy projects take root, providing clean electricity for port operations.
Terminal cranes swing continuously, giant ships shuttle back and forth orderly, and collection and distribution vehicles flow endlessly... The dual-wheel drive of wisdom and green is writing a new chapter in the development of ports in the new era.
