In the first quarter, more than 50,000 vessel transits were recorded in the Yangtze River Estuary waterway, with cargo throughput reaching approximately 400 million tonnes.
On April 9, reporters learned from the Yangtze River Estuary Channel Management Bureau that in the first quarter, the cumulative traffic flow of ships passing through the Yangtze River Estuary Channel reached 54,617 vessels, maintaining a high level of operation overall, with an estimated cargo throughput of approximately 400 million tons.
Among them, the 12.5-meter deep-water channel at the Yangtze River Estuary ensured the passage of nearly 18,000 vessels entering and leaving the port, including approximately 5,641 large vessels such as container ships over 30,000 tons, and 125 large passenger ships and cruise ships, actively promoting the development of Shanghai's cruise economy. Additionally, the South Channel ensured the passage of approximately 21,000 vessels of over 3,000 tons, effectively meeting the diversified transportation needs of river-sea intermodal transport and direct river-sea transport between Shanghai and surrounding ports.
Since the beginning of this year, the Yangtze River Estuary Channel has strengthened precise maintenance and safety enhancements. As of March 31, approximately 1.74 million cubic meters of dredging work had been carried out to ensure the safe and smooth operation of the channel, providing a secure and convenient passage for the efficient operation of Shanghai Port and other ports along the Yangtze River, the transportation of important livelihood materials, and the safe travel of passengers. This has strongly supported the implementation of national strategies such as the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and Shanghai's "Five Centers," particularly the construction of an international shipping center.
