In the first quarter, more than 50,000 vessel transits were recorded in the Yangtze River Estuary waterway, with cargo throughput reaching approximately 400 million tonnes.

In the first quarter of 2024, the operation data of the Yangtze River Estuary channel was bright, with a total of 54617 ships passing through, and the estimated freight volume was about 0.4 billion tons, maintaining a high level of operation overall. Specifically, the 12.5-meter deep-water channel played a key role in ensuring the entry and exit of nearly 18000 ships, including 5641 large container ships of 30000 tons or more and 125 large passenger ships and cruise ships, which directly promoted the recovery and development of Shanghai's cruise economy. At the same time, the South Channel also operates efficiently, ensuring the navigation of about 21000 ships of 3000 tons or more, effectively meeting the diversified transportation needs of river-sea combined transportation and river-sea direct transportation between Shanghai and surrounding ports. In order to ensure the safety and efficiency of this busy waterway, the Yangtze Estuary Waterway Administration has strengthened precise maintenance and safety improvement work. As of the end of March, about 1.74 million square meters of maintenance and dredging work has been completed. These measures ensure the safety and smooth flow of the waterway. They not only provide reliable channels for the efficient operation of Shanghai Port and ports along the Yangtze River, the transportation of important livelihood materials and passenger travel, but also strongly support the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the integration of the Yangtze River Delta from the infrastructure level.
