Nouryon to launch bio-based expandable microspheres for coatings, providing high-performance lightweight fillers and blowing agents

Nouryon launches Expancel® BIO microspheres product concept, at the 2024 Foam Expo Europe in Stuttgart, Germany. The product concept for expandable microspheres represents an enormous leap forward for Nouryon's portfolio of innovations as it delivers a partially bio-based, performance-maximizing lightweight filler and blowing agent to meet the requirements of an evolving market.

Meeting the Demanding and Growing Need for Eco

Friendly Solutions-Nouryon has designed a versatile solution that serves many applications from coatings and adhesives to construction materials, automotive parts, shoe soles, and porous ceramics while being partially bio-based and highly efficient. This innovation shall lower material weight and deliver value in property enhancement while supporting the transition to more eco-friendly and responsible production practices.

The introduction of Expancel® BIO microspheres product concept reaffirms Nouryon's commitment to developing renewable alternatives for the industry. As an alternative to conventional fossil-based materials, Expancel® BIO microspheres substitute up to 55% with renewable products, importantly strengthening underlying principles of a circular economy by ensuring high performance and environmental stewardship.
