China Shipbuilding 711 Institute receives an order for 10 sets of methanol generator units.

Recently, the No. 711 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (referred to as CSSC 711 Institute) signed a cooperation order with Wuhan Innovation River-Sea Transportation Co., Ltd. for the supply of methanol generator sets and electric propulsion systems for 10 coastal bulk carriers with a deadweight of 23,600 tons powered by methanol.

CSSC 711 Institute will provide the entire set of self-developed methanol generator sets and DC grid electric propulsion systems for these vessels, creating an integrated green power solution. These ships are equipped with the independently developed 6-cylinder CS21M methanol single-fuel generator sets by CSSC 711 Institute, with a single unit rated power of up to 1130 kilowatts. This is the first domestically produced medium-speed marine engine using methanol direct injection technology, with core technologies independently controllable. Compared to traditional marine diesel generator sets, the methanol substitution rate can reach 90%, achieving a replacement of 2 tons of methanol for 1 ton of diesel. Methanol has nearly zero leakage, and emissions meet China's Stage II regulatory requirements, effectively addressing the high emissions and high pollution issues of traditional bulk carriers, and comprehensively enhancing the green operational level of the vessels.
