The oral history project for the new era of Guangxi water transport has been launched.
On October 19, the Oral History Collection Project of the Historical Achievements and Transformations of the New Era in Guangxi Water Transport was launched during the "China Water Transport - Seeing Guangxi from the Water" multi-media publicity campaign. The project was jointly initiated by the China Transportation News Agency and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Department of Transportation. The first phase will be implemented in collaboration with units such as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Water Transport Development Center. The goal is to document the historical achievements and transformative changes in Guangxi's water transport since the new era, promoting systematic excavation and preservation of transportation cultural heritage.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Guangxi's water transport sector has achieved historic milestones and groundbreaking progress. The project will target transportation management departments, port and shipping management, maritime departments, key enterprises, and other units across the region. By interviewing witnesses, builders, and managers of significant events and collecting historical materials, it aims to systematically document the remarkable development journey of Guangxi's water transport in the new era. It will incorporate artificial intelligence to build a transportation cultural corpus and high-quality datasets and use various forms of media to tell compelling stories of building a strong transportation nation. According to the plan, the related achievements will be presented in the form of oral history databases, cultural corpora, and thematic cultural products, while summarizing and developing replicable and model collection methods. The project will further summarize and apply effective experiences from oral history work, promote scalable and transferable paradigms, and gradually expand its implementation nationwide.
Professor Yang Xiangyin from the School of History at Renmin University of China stated that this project further expands the historical material system of water transport development history. It transforms the abstract spiritual lineage of the industry into an intrinsic driving force that inspires the entire sector's ambition to strengthen its maritime capabilities, accumulates vital practice-based educational resources for cultivating water transport talent in the new era, and holds significant importance for the development of the industry.
