China's ethylene glycol production capacity and output in 2023
The annual production capacity of China's ethylene glycol industry shows a trend of increasing year by year. In 2021, the production capacity of ethylene glycol will exceed 20 million tons, up 32% year on year. From December 2022, the total production capacity of ethylene glycol in Chinese Mainland will be 25.195 million tons, and the total production capacity of coal to ethylene glycol will be 10.45 million tons. The remaining 1.2 million tons/year of new production capacity of Shaanxi Yulin Chemical will be added. In 2023, it is expected that 3 million tons of ethylene glycol production capacity devices will be put into production in China, and 850000 tons of production capacity devices will be put into production abroad. The regional distribution of ethylene glycol production capacity in China presents a regional distribution pattern of "more in the east and less in the west". The production capacity distribution in East China accounts for over 50%, making it the main distribution area of ethylene glycol production capacity, followed by North China, with a production capacity distribution of about 14%, while the production capacity in other regions does not exceed 10%.
With the continuous increase of production units, ethylene glycol production has increased year by year. In 2021, the ethylene glycol production exceeded 12 million tons. From January to December 2022, the cumulative production was 13.278 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 1.371 million tons, with a year-on-year increase of 11.51%. The increase in production was relatively significant. In January 2023, the ethylene glycol production was 1.2168 million tons, down 1.19% month on month, and up 13.54% year on year. The global ethylene glycol production is mainly concentrated in several major production enterprises, such as Shabik, Dow, and Sinopec.
