178 contestants from the rescue and salvage system compete in Yantai.

From July 7 to 8, the China Seamen's Construction Union and the Ministry of Transport's Salvage and Rescue Bureau jointly held the "Chinese Dream, Beauty of Labor" 2026 Salvage System Water Rescue Technology and Employee Skills Competition in Yantai, Shandong. A total of 178 participants from six units of the salvage system took part in the competition, further testing and enhancing the emergency response capabilities of China's professional maritime salvage teams in water rescue operations.

This skills competition included three parts: theoretical assessment, technical practice, and comprehensive maritime rescue drills, with a total of 17 competition projects. In the theoretical assessment, participants calculated the drift trajectory of simulated overboard individuals and developed rescue plans. The technical practice included nine shore-based operational skills such as line throwing, knot tying, and underwater cutting, as well as seven water rescue technical projects such as operating large professional rescue vessels and searching for and rescuing capsized distressed ships, essentially covering the full operational requirements for maritime rescue in high sea conditions.

Notably, this skills competition deeply integrated new practical subjects of salvage productivity, such as air-sea coordinated rescue, comprehensive risk handling, and drone target searching, with hands-on skills for frontline salvage positions, achieving a resonance between critical rescue technologies and professional fundamentals. During the event, the salvage system also conducted a comprehensive maritime rescue drill, simulating emergency response to collisions between commercial and fishing vessels in severe weather, testing the rapid response and coordination capabilities of China's professional maritime salvage forces during flood and typhoon seasons.
