To deepen the integration of industry and education and bridge the gap between classroom theoretical knowledge and practical water environment management, on July 22, CCCC Shanghai Dredging Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang University Ocean College jointly launched the "Ten Thousand Engineers Enter the Classroom" practical activity, which, through three stages of on-site visits, engineer lectures, and face-to-face exchanges, helped students establish a systematic understanding of river and lake ecological management and restoration, building a practical bridge for school-enterprise collaborative education.
Undergraduates from the 2024 class of the Ocean Engineering and Technology program at Zhejiang University Ocean College visited the CCCC Shanghai Dredging Water Environment Management and Ecological Restoration Research Center (Chenhang Base). At the first stop of the activity, students visited innovative platforms such as the comprehensive laboratory, engineering technology center, and key laboratories, and explored the pilot testing and verification platform for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements under the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. This platform undertakes the functions of research, verification, and demonstration of water and soil collaborative management technologies. Guided by Dr. Wu Yao from the Environmental Research Institute, teachers and students visited each experimental unit one by one, observing up close the evolution process of core technologies such as "deep nitrogen and phosphorus removal artificial wetlands" and "grass-based clear water ecosystem construction" from laboratory validation to pilot testing. The precise experimental units and detailed monitoring data allowed students to truly experience the rigorous logic of applying water environment management technologies "from the laboratory to the engineering site," and to develop an intuitive understanding of innovation in environmental protection technology.

After the visit, the classroom moved to the conference room. Dr. Wu Yao delivered a results-oriented lecture titled "River and Lake Ecological Restoration Technologies and Practical Cases" to the students, featuring case studies, data, and stories. Instead of starting with theoretical concepts, he went straight to the sites of typical river and lake management projects, breaking down ecological restoration technology solutions, green construction techniques, practical challenges in project implementation, and their solutions one by one. How is water quality improved? How is sediment treated? How is the ecosystem restored? The technical problem-solving journey of R&D engineers was presented as a series of specific issues, and real-life cases from the engineering front line gave textbook knowledge a tangible weight. The students listened attentively, taking notes from time to time, and gained a deep understanding of the value of an engineer's mindset through hands-on project experience.
The atmosphere during the discussion and exchange session was lively. Students enthusiastically asked questions about the details of water ecological restoration technologies, the R&D process, and the career paths of engineers. Facing this group of "future engineers" who had just begun their cognitive internships, company engineers who graduated from Zhejiang University and the R&D technical team shared their insights based on their frontline experiences, discussing professional development, interdisciplinary learning, and commitment to the industry. They encouraged the students to solidify their professional foundations, broaden their knowledge horizons, and dedicate themselves to the cause of environmental protection and ecological management in the future, using the power of technology to safeguard green mountains and clear waters.

After the exchange, the students visited the Shanghai Dredging Exhibition Hall. The exhibition hall vividly showcased the century-long journey of the national dredging industry, from its challenging beginnings to self-reliance and strength, since the establishment of the Dredging Bureau in 1905, through historical photographs, design drawings, and physical exhibits. From yellowed construction archives to the iterative upgrades of intelligent dredging equipment, the clear trajectory of technological evolution was vividly presented, allowing students to directly feel the transformation of the industry driven by innovation. The sense of perseverance and responsibility they had experienced during the discussion with engineers was now deeply reinforced by the weighty historical exhibits.

This activity was a vivid practice of deepening the integration of industry and education and collaborative education between CCCC Shanghai Dredging Survey and Design Institute Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang University Ocean College. By stepping into the frontlines of research and engaging in dialogue with frontline R&D engineers, young students established a real understanding of the industry during their professional development phase. They also gained a tangible sense of the daily perseverance and innovation of central enterprise engineers behind grand concepts like "Beautiful China" and "Craftsman Spirit." Moving forward, both parties will continue to deepen regular school-enterprise cooperation, optimize and solidify the cognitive internship mechanism, and rely on major projects and research platforms in the field of water environment management and ecological restoration to cultivate youthful energy for the high-quality development of the industry and the construction of a Beautiful China.
