Cargo and container throughput at Jiangsu ports increased in the first half of the year.
Since the beginning of this year, ports across Jiangsu have continuously optimized port services, unleashing production potential. In the first half of the year, cargo throughput reached 1.81 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%, and container throughput reached 14.872 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, including foreign trade container throughput of 6.924 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%.
At Fengshan Terminal in Haian Port Area of Nantong Port, 100 TEUs of optical cable products are transshipped to Shanghai Yangshan Port Area for export to Europe and America every month. This year, Fengshan Terminal has fully utilized its advantages in multimodal transport combining road, rail, and water, actively expanding and optimizing cargo structure, with the transshipment volume of "new three types" of goods increasing by over 50%. To meet the export needs of local enterprises for ultra-high transformers, Fengshan Terminal has accelerated the construction of new berths, allowing enterprises to enjoy export convenience right at their doorstep.
As the core bulk commodity distribution hub of Lianyungang Port and the only 400,000-ton-class specialized ore terminal in Jiangsu Province, Xin Su Port Terminal achieved a 6.67% year-on-year increase in cargo shipment volume in May, setting a new historical record for single-month shipment volume. Among this, transshipment and multimodal transport business saw a significant increase of 32.88%. To meet the cargo pickup needs of hinterland customers, the port area concentrated all production resources on railway operations, fully enhancing the efficiency of railway freight transport in the port area.
In the first five months of this year, Suzhou Port achieved rapid growth in cargo and container throughput. Among them, the "new three types" of goods and complete vehicle exports performed outstandingly. Taicang Port Area completed the export of 507,000 vehicles in the first five months, a year-on-year increase of over 70%, with an average of one new energy vehicle being shipped globally from Taicang Port Area every minute.
