Lianyungang Port's 300,000-ton channel expansion project is now open for navigation.

On September 4, it was learned from a joint press conference held by the Lianyungang Maritime Safety Administration and the Lianyungang Transportation Bureau that the 300,000-ton channel expansion and reconstruction project at Lianyungang Port in Jiangsu officially opened to navigation starting today.

The project spans a total length of 41.3 kilometers, with a total investment of 1.752 billion yuan. It is a major hub project promoting the construction of "Water Transport Jiangsu" and is an expansion based on the 150,000-ton channel and the second-phase 300,000-ton channel at Lianyungang Port. After being put into use, the inner section of the outer channel will achieve full-tide two-way navigation for 70,000-ton container ships, while also accommodating 400,000-ton bulk carriers for single-tide one-way navigation. The Miaoling Channel and inner channel will achieve full-tide two-way navigation for 70,000-ton container ships, while also accommodating 200,000-ton container ships for single-tide one-way navigation. The Xuwei Channel will meet the requirements for full-tide two-way navigation for 50,000-ton ships and single-tide one-way navigation for 300,000-ton oil tankers, with the simultaneous addition of dedicated anchorages for 300,000-ton oil tankers, addressing the shortfall in anchorage facilities for ultra-large vessels.

This expansion and reconstruction project focuses on addressing the challenges of restricted two-way passage for large container ships and insufficient navigation support for ultra-large bulk oil tankers. It also considers the tidal navigation needs of 400,000-ton bulk carriers and 300,000-ton oil tankers, aligning with the global trend of larger ships. This will significantly reduce waiting times for tides, further lower logistics costs for enterprises in the hinterland of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Anhui, and ensure the transportation of strategic materials such as crude oil and iron ore.

During the construction period, the Lianyungang Maritime Safety Administration, in collaboration with the Lianyungang Transportation Bureau, the 300,000-ton channel construction command of Lianyungang Port, and other units, proactively ensured navigation safety during the construction phase. They optimized the handling of hydraulic engineering permits, strengthened safety supervision of dredging construction vessels, and implemented comprehensive control measures using patrol boats, drones, and VTS to ensure that large-scale dredging construction and the passage of maritime vessels proceeded without interference.
