Following the recent earthquake in southeast Türkiye, Asian PTA producers are evaluating the effects on their exports. With 79% of Türkiye's PTA imports coming from Asia, primarily South Korea, shipping challenges arise at Iskenderun and Mersin ports. The earthquake may affect the operating rates of downstream processors, particularly at Koksan's PET production facilities in Gaziantep.

After the strong earthquake in southeast TÃ¼rkiye and other regions, Asian PTA producers are assessing the impact of their exports.

According to the supply and demand database of Axis, in 2022, about 79% of TÃ¼rkiye's PTA imports will come from Asia, and the largest share will come from South Korea, accounting for 40% of the total imports.

Asian PTA manufacturers are considering postponing the shipment to TÃ¼rkiye's Iskenderun port because the port was seriously affected by the earthquake, while TÃ¼rkiye's Mersin port and other ports are currently limited by the earthquake.

Due to the challenges in infrastructure and logistics, the operating rate of PTA downstream processors, blow molding industry and terminal market may decline.

According to some market sources, since the production plant is located in Gaziantep, TÃ¼rkiye, the operating rate of Koksan's PET production facilities may be affected. According to the supply and demand database of Axis, Koksan operates two sets of 216 thousand tons/year PET devices in Gaziantep.
