Manufacturing Process
Stage 1: Ilmenite Conversion
High-grade ilmenite ore (≥58% TiO₂) undergoes fluidized-bed chlorination at 950°C, producing titanium tetrachloride (TiCl₄) through the reaction:
2FeTiO₃ + 7Cl₂ + 3C → 2TiCl₄ + 2FeCl₃ + 3CO₂
Stage 2: Magnesium Reduction
In argon-purged stainless steel reactors, purified TiCl₄ reacts with magnesium at 850°C:
TiCl₄ + 2Mg → Ti + 2MgCl₂
This 120-hour reduction cycle yields porous sponge cakes with 60~70% void fraction.
Stage 3: Refining & Processing
