1. Calcium hydroxide is alkaline and can be used to reduce soil acidity, thereby improving soil structure. Bordeaux mixture, a pesticide, is prepared by mixing lime milk (calcium hydroxide dissolved in water) with a copper sulfate aqueous solution in a specific ratio. In winter, to protect trees from pests, an 80-centimeter layer of lime slurry is applied above the tree roots.
2.   High-quality calcium hydroxide is primarily used in the production of epichlorohydrin and propylene oxide.
3.   It can be utilized in rubber and petrochemical additives, such as in the petroleum industry where it is added to lubricating oils to prevent coking, sludge deposition, and to neutralize and provide corrosion protection.
4.   It is employed in the production of bleaching powder, bleaching powder concentrate, disinfectants, acidifiers, astringents, water softeners, soil acidity preventatives, hair removal agents, buffers, neutralizing agents, and curing agents.
5.    Calcium hydroxide reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to form insoluble calcium carbonate. In the sugar industry, calcium hydroxide is first used to neutralize acids in the syrup, followed by the introduction of carbon dioxide to react with the remaining calcium hydroxide, forming precipitates that are filtered out, thereby reducing the sour taste of the sugar.
