In the first two months of this year, China’s total social logistics reached RMB 58.6 trillion, showing a clear recovery trend.
On March 27, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing released logistics operation data for the first two months of this year. The data shows that China's logistics operations have had a good start, with social logistics demand steadily rebounding.
In January-February this year, the total value of social logistics in China was 58.6 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.7% at comparable prices, with growth rates 1.6 and 1.4 percentage points higher than the whole of last year and the same period last year, respectively, showing a clear upward trend. Structurally, domestic production and consumption and international import logistics demand improved simultaneously, with logistics demand in various fields accelerating compared to the same period last year. In January-February, the total value of industrial goods logistics increased by 6.3% year-on-year. Among them, more than 80% of industrial sub-sectors showed growth, with the computer, communication, and other electronic equipment manufacturing industries, as well as high-end equipment manufacturing fields such as railways, ships, and aerospace, all growing by more than 10%.
The growth rate of international logistics has significantly rebounded, with the total value of imported goods logistics increasing by 9.6% year-on-year in January-February, accelerating by 9.1 percentage points compared to the whole of last year, showing a good start with high growth.
In January-February, the total value of logistics for units and residents' goods increased by 9.4% year-on-year, with the growth rate 4.3 percentage points higher than the whole of last year. New business models such as instant retail are booming, effectively driving strong growth in new consumption logistics demand. In January-February, online retail sales of goods increased by 10.3% year-on-year, the highest growth rate since June 2024. Rural consumption growth outpaced urban areas, with the proportion of county and township consumption steadily increasing. Rural e-commerce, urban-rural joint distribution, and upward logistics demand for agricultural products remained active, further solidifying the resilient growth foundation of logistics for units and residents.
Logistics market size continues to expand, operational quality and efficiency steadily improve
From the perspective of total logistics industry revenue, China's logistics market size continues to expand, achieving steady growth at the start of the year, further demonstrating the resilience of modern logistics development.
In January-February, the total revenue of the logistics industry was 2.0 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%, with the growth rate 0.4 percentage points higher than the same period last year. In January-February, the average China Logistics Industry Prosperity Index was 49.4%, with the industry as a whole steadily recovering and the operational prosperity level generally stable.
The freight network maintained smooth and efficient operation, with the transportation structure accelerating optimization. In January-February, railway freight volume increased by 1.6% year-on-year, with container shipment volume increasing by 10.5% year-on-year.
In January-February, cross-border logistics vitality continued to rebound, with international route air cargo and mail transportation volume reaching 712,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%; the China-Europe freight train operated 3,501 trains, a year-on-year increase of 31.7%.
The supply and demand of the logistics market are accelerating optimization, service price levels are gradually warming up, and the operational vitality of logistics enterprises tends to improve. The data shows that in January-February, the business income of key logistics enterprises increased by 6.6% year-on-year, with the growth rate 1.0 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
Overall, the logistics operation has a stable start, and the logistics operation in the first quarter is expected to maintain a stable and progressive development trend, with fields such as supply chain, cross-border logistics, and multimodal transport continuing to develop rapidly.
