In the first two months of this year, Qingdao Port’s intermodal rail-sea container throughput increased by 10.6% year on year.
China News Service, Qingdao, March 26 (Zhang Xiaopeng, Bi Wenbo) Qingdao Customs announced on the 26th that in the first two months of 2026, the sea-rail intermodal container volume at Qingdao Port reached 512,000 standard containers, an increase of 10.6% year-on-year.
Sea-rail intermodal transport is the core transportation method of international logistics. In this model, import and export goods are seamlessly connected through railway transport and coastal seaport shipping, achieving "one-time declaration, one-time inspection, one-time release." Relying on the three-dimensional logistics network of "inland port + sea-rail intermodal transport + international trains," the container sea-rail intermodal volume of Qingdao Port has ranked first among Chinese ports for 11 consecutive years.
In scenarios where the distance is over 600 kilometers, sea-rail intermodal transport has lower costs and shorter cycles. "Last year, we exported goods exceeding 120 standard containers through sea-rail intermodal transport, saving over 360,000 RMB in costs," said Zhao Qiang, General Manager of Shandong Landbridge International Freight Agency Co., Ltd. Compared to the "road + sea" model, the sea-rail intermodal model can reduce the logistics cost per container by about 15%.
"In addition to cost savings, the stability of sea-rail intermodal transport is a key advantage." Dai Xuechao, manager of the business department at the Sea-Rail Intermodal Transport Center of Qingdao Port International Logistics Co., Ltd., introduced that Qingdao Customs, in collaboration with the port, has developed a "direct entry and exit" operation mode. After the cargo arrives at the port, loading and unloading transfer can be completed within an average of 2 hours, with the punctuality rate of the trains maintained at over 99%.
Qingdao Port is the largest foreign trade port in northern China, with more than half of the export goods from provinces such as Henan and Shaanxi "going to sea" through this port. Currently, the total number of foreign trade routes at this port is nearly 240, ranking first among northern Chinese ports. The port has established 56 inland ports and launched 86 sea-rail intermodal trains. (End)
