Suzhou Ship Pollution Prevention Skills Competition concluded in Taicang.

On August 28, the 2026 Suzhou Ship Pollution Prevention Skills Competition successfully concluded at the Taicang Supervision and Rescue Base. Guided by the Jiangsu Maritime Bureau, the competition was jointly organized by the Taicang Municipal People's Government and the Suzhou Federation of Trade Unions, and hosted by the Taicang Federation of Trade Unions and the Taicang Maritime Bureau. Centered on "learning through exams and selecting talent through competitions," the event focused on enhancing the professional capabilities and emergency response levels of frontline personnel in ship pollution prevention.

The competition closely aligned with the Yangtze River Protection Strategy and the implementation needs of the "One Zero, Two Full, Four Free" long-term mechanism, innovatively adopting a "online qualification round + centralized finals" two-tier format. On August 19, 410 participants from 43 units across three cities along the Yangtze River took part in the online qualification round. After rigorous selection, 80 elite contestants from 29 units advanced to the finals. The finals consisted of two major modules: theoretical assessment and practical exercises. The practical segment innovatively used a "real-life video + timed identification" model, testing contestants' ability to accurately identify pollution prevention hazards through real footage of ships docking operations, covering key areas such as proper handling of pollutants, safe use of shore power, and ship-shore interface management.

After multiple rounds of intense competition, the event ultimately awarded one first prize, six second prizes, twelve third prizes, and recognized five outstanding organizational units. This competition not only served as a comprehensive review of the professional skills of the city's ship pollution prevention teams but also provided a platform for industry experience exchange and skill enhancement. Moving forward, the Taicang Maritime Bureau will use this competition as an opportunity to continue deepening the cultivation of highly skilled talent, strengthening the Yangtze River ship pollution prevention line, and injecting momentum into the high-quality development of Suzhou's green port and shipping industry.
