Nippon Paint Marine has successfully applied its innovative AQUATERRAS SPC solution on a Wanhai vessel in China. This groundbreaking, low VOC, biocide-free antifouling coating promises enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, setting a new standard for marine coatings. The application on the 'Wan Hai 613' showcases its potential to protect marine environments effectively.

Nippon Paint Marine has now made it successfully to THE application of 'AQUATERRAS-non-biocidal and expressly low VOC S-P-C solution,' on a Wanhai vessel in China. Unlike the conservative coating methods, which might guarantee hulls continuous protection from fouling and possible savings of 14.7% fuel over a span of 60 months compared to the market-average speed loss, finally reducing carbon-emission discharge.

In July 2024, Wan Hai Shipping’s 71,336 DWT container ship “Wan Hai 613” entered Changhong Shipyard in Zhoushan, China for scheduled ship repairs and maintenance. During the dry dock Nippon Paint Marine carried out a full coat application using the newly developed low VOC AQUATERRAS SPC solution.

Launched in 2021, AQUATERRAS breaks new ground in antifouling with its biocide-free formula and represents a world first in the development of antifouling technology. AQUATERRAS is an SPC coating that protects the marine environment by preventing biocides from seeping into the ocean and causing harm to non-target marine life. Low-friction coatings provide significantly improved carbon emissions reductions and fuel efficiency compared to market averages, as well as effective anti-fouling protection.
