Fujian has launched its first white-goods block train to Northwest China, adding another efficient logistics corridor to the nation’s east–west–south–north network.
On March 28, a freight train loaded with 20 containers of baby wipes and other items departed from the Huangtang Railway Freight Yard in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, heading to Xi'an, Shaanxi. This is the first time Fujian has operated a freight train to the northwest region, adding a new efficient logistics channel for trade between the southeast coast and the northwest hinterland.
According to the introduction, "white goods" refer to high-value scattered goods other than bulk goods such as coal, ore, and steel. Railway freight trains for white goods have characteristics such as fixed train numbers, fixed routes, and fixed operating times, offering advantages of strong timeliness, high stability, and excellent economy. Compared to road transport, railway transport has lower cargo damage, higher timeliness, and better cost efficiency. Through exclusive loading and reinforcement plans and a direct-to-destination mode, it can effectively ensure cargo safety and help enterprises reduce costs and increase efficiency.
Ye Zhiyang, Deputy General Manager of Warehousing and Logistics Procurement at Fujian Hengan Group Co., Ltd., introduced that previously, the company's goods sent to the northwest mainly relied on road transport, which was easily affected by weather and other factors, leading to unstable timeliness. After switching to railway transport, the cargo damage rate is expected to decrease by 90%, and logistics costs have been effectively compressed.
To ensure the smooth operation of the freight train, the Fuzhou Railway Logistics Center of the Nanchang Bureau of China Railway actively visited enterprises in the southern Fujian region to understand the freight demand towards the northwest direction and customized a "consolidation + train" plan to integrate scattered small-batch goods, providing "door-to-door" full-service support. Huangtang Station prepared in advance for vehicle assembly and allocation, with dedicated personnel following up on container pickup and delivery, positioning, and other processes, efficiently completing vehicle grouping. "The railway department has opened a 'green channel' for the white goods train, implementing 'priority allocation of empty cars, priority organization of loading, priority scheduling of departures' to ensure efficient and smooth cargo transport," said Cai Wanhai, Manager of the Quanzhou Business Department of the Fuzhou Railway Logistics Center.
The opening of this white goods train marks the expansion of the logistics coverage of railway trains from the southwest to the northwest in Fujian, the core area of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It opens a new two-way circulation channel for light industrial products from the southeast coast and characteristic agricultural products from the northwest, further promoting trade between the southeast and northwest regions and injecting new momentum into regional coordinated development.
