Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has added a 250-meter deep-water berth.
Recently, the 0# container berth project at Chuanshan Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port received official approval from the Ministry of Transport for the use of deep-water shoreline, marking the addition of a 250-meter deep-water shoreline to Ningbo Zhoushan Port, injecting new momentum into the port's capacity enhancement.
The approved 0# berth project is located on the west side of the No. 1 container berth at Chuanshan Port Area, and plans to build a 30,000-ton container berth (the hydraulic structure is designed and constructed to accommodate 150,000-ton container ships), with a designed annual throughput capacity of 504,000 standard containers. Once completed, the project will effectively meet the continuous growth in container transportation demand in the hinterland, providing solid hardware support for the container throughput capacity of Chuanshan Port Area to reach a new level.
As the world's first major port with an annual cargo throughput exceeding 1.4 billion tons, Ningbo Zhoushan Port boasts unique deep-water shoreline resources. Currently, the entire port has over 210 large deep-water berths above 10,000 tons, and over 130 super-large deep-water berths above 50,000 tons, making it the port with the most large and super-large deep-water berths in mainland China.
In recent years, the container throughput of Ningbo Zhoushan Port has maintained a high growth trend, with the entire port's container terminals operating at full capacity for a long time, making it urgent to enhance the overall throughput capacity. "Tapping the potential of mature core port areas has become the key path to solving the current problem of insufficient throughput capacity and cultivating new growth poles," explained a relevant official from the Ningbo Port and Shipping Management Center's Engineering Department.
Four months ago, the expansion and opening of the No. 1 berth at Chuanshan Port Area's container terminal passed national acceptance, achieving "point-to-area" full-area opening for 11 berths, with a total open shoreline length of 3,740 meters. Now, the official approval of the 0# berth shoreline means that the container terminal at Chuanshan Port Area is once again expanding westward on the basis of its existing scale advantage, further unleashing the collaborative operational potential of the berth group. In the future, this berth will form an efficient linkage with the already built berths 1 to 11, enhancing the turnover efficiency of terminal berths and the flexibility of handling large ships, injecting new momentum into the sustained high-level operation of the "ten million container level" single terminal at Chuanshan Port Area.
Apart from Chuanshan Port Area, the construction of shorelines in other port areas of Ningbo Zhoushan Port is also progressing simultaneously. The first phase of the Fodu operation area project in Liuheng Port Area is being accelerated, planning to build 2 new 200,000-ton container berths, utilizing a total shoreline length of 950 meters, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 2.01 million standard containers; the construction of berths 24-26 in Zhenhai Port Area is also underway, planning to build 3 new 5,000-ton liquid chemical berths, occupying a total shoreline length of 469 meters, with a designed annual throughput capacity of 3.06 million tons.
The continuous expansion and intensive utilization of deep-water shoreline resources are forging stronger hardware capabilities for Ningbo Zhoushan Port, aiding its acceleration towards becoming a world-class strong port.
